I stumbled upon this Reddit post about Mr. JJ Mediterranean Grill in Louisville, KY. The OP posted a nasty reply to a negative Google review. The original review was removed from Google. There is no way for me to tell if the person who posted it removed it or if Google removed it. I don’t see any reason the review would violate Google’s TOS. The review called out the food and service, while questioning the positive reviews. The review also claims that the business charged more for the food than what was listed on the menu. This is the perfect opportunity for whoever replies to reviews to be professional. That is not what happened here.
How not to reply to reviews
Whoever is listed as an owner on the Google Business Profile (GBP) chose to lash out at the reviewer. They initially started off with this insane statement: “Good morals cover the faults of the uneducated, but education does not cover the faults of the immoral.” This is a strong and bizarre opening. Are they saying the review is uneducated and immoral? The replyer doubles down with the following statement: “You are the second person to claim to be a Muslim, yet your actions reveal clear hypocrisy.” Wow, calling them out over their faith and religious practices. Let’s see the proof of this statement. They continued with: “You called us to ask if our meat was Halal, and we confirmed that it is.” Halal is an Arabic term meaning “permissible” or “lawful” under Islamic law. Apparently, the person responding took exception to the reviewer asking this on the phone and in person. Whatever. Here’s where it gets interesting. Apparently, the person who replied took a page from my play and looked at the reviewer’s profile. They continued with: “What struck me as ironic is that your Google profile shows you eat from Taco Bell and similar restaurants -a place that does not serve halal food and is known for some of the lowest- quality meats available.” Why did they need to bring Taco Bell into this? Let’s see how this continues. “In other words, you are comfortable eating food of questionable quality not halal elsewhere, but when you visit a respectable restaurant, you suddenly insist on raising religious concerns,” they wrote. How do we know the reviewer didn’t ask the Taco Bell staff if their food is halal. We also don’t see what items the reviewer ordered. The replier again questions the reviewer’s faith with: “This behavior reflects not faith, but hypocrisy.”
Here is where the reply goes off the rails, so grab your popcorn. They wrote, “It is unreasonable for six adults and four children to dinein and order a meal that is insufficient even for two people. However, due to repeated instances of such behavior, we have established a clear restaurant policy “A minimum of $13 a meal for each person dinningin. We are not going to dine in an Army who want to share one platter worth $20.” This seems pretty reasonable so far. Oh, just there is more. They continued with, “*** Now let us speak your language, you described our food as trash but you ate it all :)” Here it comes, brace yourselves, “You and the group of goats that came with you, the four kids started to run all over the place, jumping on the booths, jumping from one booth to another, jumping on each table, throwin spoons, forks, cups on the ground while their their mothers are chatting. When you are done eating, the tables and the floor were filled with trash and the kids shoes prints all over the booth and tables. We all know that you came from a country known to have some people that are the most disgusting, most filthy on the planet and We just witnessed that in reality. I suggest that you take your unbehaved women and kids to eat at zoo where you belong.” Damn!!! I didn’t seeing the reply going this way.
The person replying to the review finished with the following: “We will post a video of your visit on YouTube and Facebook pages to show that don’t belong to the human beings category. No worry we have your phone number we will text you the links.” I want the links. I need to see if any of this is true. The replier finishes with, “Keep this beautiful country clean and learn from its people how to be a real human.” The irony and audacity to end the reply this way is breathtaking. Imagine being this rude in a review reply and demanding this.

If the business has video of this incident, I’d love to see it. This sounds like an episode of Jerry Springer. I have dined out countless times, and I have never seen anything happen like these incidents. I must be dining in the wrong places.
Since this was posted on Reddit, this is not the end of it. It does seem that some people have decided to post Google reviews to trash the business over the first review reply I covered. If that is the case, Google needs to remove those reviews. Google also needs to remove the replies where the people leaving reviews were doxxed and had their license plates posted. The Reddit post and any other social media post can stay up. There is nothing wrong with them. One thing is certain, this not the proper way to reply to reviews and only makes matters worse.
