Jason Brown of Review Fraud

Jason Brown Review Fraud speaking at Pubcon

Hi, I am Jason Brown. I have been working in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) industry since 2006. I first started out as a project manager for InternetzoneI. My day to today responsibilities were to work with our content writers and developers in order to help our clients perform better in Google searches for their keywords. I have worked on a myriad of projects over the course of my career. I spent three and a half years working with several nationwide franchises.

I ended up starting Review Fraud as a fun little side project. I never envisioned that it would catapult me to SEO stardom. This website was merely meant to document and expose businesses that were engaging in deception review practices in an attempt to make their business listings look better for consumers searching online. Some of the businesses purchased fake reviews to either jumpstart their business or in an attempt to combat real negative reviews. I have also identified countless businesses offering illegal review contests or using review solicitation services to hinder and discourage negative reviews.

I have testified in one court case regarding a business engaging deceptive review tactics. I have been interviewed on several ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC news stations about fake online reviews. My peers regard me as “The Sherrif of Google” or one of the leading experts on online reviews. I have also consulted with police departments and worked some high profile cases involving Donald Trump’s Whitehouse and his administration.

I have also battled Google and pushed them to start tackling fake business listings. I have pushed Google to clean up fake lawyer, drug and alcohol rehab, and garage door Google My Businesses listings. I have also had my hand in reporting and taking down countless fake lead generation Google My Business listings. I am pretty sure my face is on countless dartboards. Only my clients know what listings I have reported and taken down. The spammers all think it was Google’s doing. They are half right. While I do report fake listings, it is Google that decides to suspend and remove the listing.

I have spoken at various events like Pubcon and LocalU and been a guest on several webinars for BrightLocal, Local Marketing Connect, and GradeUs. My own family, friends and colleagues contact me to look at and investigate businesses and online reviews.
