I learned about a new scam plaguing Google Maps. Spammers are creating fake massage Google Business Profiles (GBPs) to target people looking for happy endings. Several of these fake listings started popping up between now and July. Most of them look innocent enough, with generic pictures. Some are showing women posing provocatively.
Only a few GBPs list a website. The telephone numbers appear to be out of state. The businesses are not located at the address, and there are no photos showing a business exists there. According to several negative reviews, they request payment upfront via a cash apps. One negative review states they were told the business never recieved the payment.
This is ingenious. Create fake listings so you don’t have to worry about selling leads. Prey on people looking to commit a crime by hiring a sex worker, and take their money. This beats the extortion review scams hands down. How long will these GBPs remain live on Google? Will Google take action against the people behind it, or close the loophole that allows these fake GBPs to be created?
