Your mom was such a sweetheart, and I truly enjoyed working with her. She seemed happy with the work when we finished — otherwise, she wouldn’t have paid us. It seems like she only had second thoughts after others started saying the work wasn’t done correctly.

From what your mother told me, I was the only contractor willing to take on the job. Every other contractor strongly recommended tearing down and rebuilding the structure because the roof was caving in, and adding new support beams would have been a temporary fix at best. However, your mom insisted that it didn’t have to be perfect — she just wanted it to last another two or three years, though I couldn’t guarantee even that. I explained this clearly from the start and made it clear that no warranty could be offered due to the structure’s poor condition.

The project faced some challenges, including delayed material deliveries from Home Depot and one contractor backing out because he didn’t believe the structure would hold up. After a couple of weeks, I found someone willing to do the work and install new support beams. To everyone’s surprise, the structure ended up looking like it would last longer than expected.

The issue that caused concern later was a cracked concrete footing due to ground erosion and shifting on the slope — something I warned could happen and one of the main reasons why no warranty was provided.

The thing that is the most disgusting about your claim is that I told you and your mother that I was still willing to come back and fix the concrete that cracked. Not because you threatened me with you being a big-time Chicago lawyer and told me you didn’t want to have to “release the dogs” on me but because I wanted to help regardless of the no warranty. The reason I cut off all communication and told you I would not be coming back.
